The Kustomer story
Meet Brad Birnbaum and Jeremy Suriel, two pioneers who’ve been shaking up the enterprise tech world for over 20 years. Their story starts in 1994 with eShare Technologies, where they revolutionized enterprise e-commerce by introducing large-scale chat for customer support for companies like 1800Flowers, AOL, Sprint, Dell and Microsoft.
Fast forward to 2009, Brad and Jeremy launched Assistly, grabbing attention from heavy hitters like Twitter and Spotify. They were transforming the way customers did business so quickly that within 18 months Salesforce snapped them up, turning Assistly into Desk.com.
But here’s the twist – while at Salesforce, they saw an opportunity: a chance to improve how companies relate to their customers. Customer needs were evolving. They saw customers as people, not tickets, and envisioned a seamless omnichannel experience. Frustrated with the limitations, they had an epiphany – it was time for a change.
Enter Kustomer, founded in 2015. Think of it as a customer service revolution, putting the customer at the heart of the experience. Brad and Jeremy went stealth, perfecting a platform that is more than just a CRM – it’s a game-changer. Companies quickly started to see the value of the Kustomer platform – leveraging CRM Data with Omnichannel Support and using Advanced Automations to automate routine and mundane tasks.
By 2020, even Facebook (now Meta) couldn’t ignore Kustomer’s impact, acquiring the company to enhance communication between businesses and people. But the story doesn’t end there. In 2023, Meta spun out Kustomer to let it continue its mission of revolutionizing customer service.
